Chief Human Resources Officer
As the Chief Human Resources Officer, Raul del Barco leads the Academy’s people practices with a focus on diversity and inclusion, overseeing human resources and volunteer services for the Bay Area’s largest cultural attraction. He leads the strategic planning of all human resources programs, including talent development and acquisition, diversity initiatives, compensation, benefits, policies and procedures, employee relations, people tools and technologies, and staff training and coaching. del Barco’s focus on attracting and developing the best talent, building a culture of collaboration and agility, and providing meaningful growth opportunities has helped make the Academy one of the Bay Area’s best operating museums.
del Barco joined the Academy in 2005 and was instrumental in staffing the museum’s new Golden Gate Park facility, which reopened in 2008. He has over 20 years of experience in human resources management and is a trusted advisor to other local non-profits within the Bay Area. Before joining the Academy, del Barco held senior HR positions developing human resources functions at several start-up and established technology companies, including Indus International, TeamToolz, and NBC Internet. He also served as Assistant Director of HR at Hyatt Hotels. Prior to his career in HR, del Barco also worked in retail management and was a Spanish bilingual case manager to clients in a residential substance abuse program.
In his spare time, del Barco enjoys exploring San Francisco, visiting his family in Peru, travelling to new places, cooking, fitness, the arts, and live music. He is a proud, long-time resident of San Francisco and an active volunteer with many local nonprofit organizations.
Raul attended San Francisco State University and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Society for Human Resource Management.
