Gems and minerals aren’t just beautiful— they’re inside your cell phone, critical to your plasma TV...and they’re running out!

Making a Music Video

The Academy's Teen Advocates for Science Communication volunteers decided to flip the popular Kanye West song “All of the lights” into “All of the -ites”—a music video highlighting the science behind malachite, azurite, graphite…you get the point.

With the help of a local middle school science teacher and science YouTuber “Science With Tom,” the students researched and wrote lyrics inspired by the Academy’s Gems and Minerals Unearthed exhibit.

The students hope to get their message of scientific wonder and environmental responsibility stuck in your head, so that whenever you listen to Kanye again, you’ll be thinking about how the atomic structures of minerals lead to their uniquely useful properties. Or maybe just how pretty they are.
