The California Science Education Conference takes place in San Jose from October 18-20, 2019. Our team will be there, throughout!

Regardless of the grade level or subject you teach, any of the below options will inspire you to to try new pedagogical strategies.

Pre-Conference Climate Summit  | Thursday, October 17 | 1:30pm-3:00pm

  • Visit our tables to learn more about how we integrate positive messaging about combating the impacts of climate change in our student programs; learn about some exciting citizen science options for kids; and walk away with plenty of ideas, research-based toolkit, and perhaps another surprise gift!

Short Course  | Friday, October 18 | 2:30pm-5:30pm

  • Science Talk Bootcamp
Your phenomenon is engaging, your lab is hands-on, but when you say "turn and talk" students go silent, or chat about anything but science. Join us to explore the foundations of a positive classroom climate for science talk, and walk away with several talk strategies you can use next week.

Workshops
On Saturday, October 19, you'll find the Academy team in room 212A all day!

  • Elevate Your PD Facilitation | 10:00am-11:30am
Have you ever been to a PD that was, shall we say, not the best? If you lead PD for other teachers, join us to explore principles and strategies behind creating high quality professional learning experiences.

  • Unlearning: Daylighting Misconceptions | 12:00pm-1:30pm
We all aim to teach for conceptual understanding, but how do we get there when misconceptions have already taken root? Join us in exploring the process of unlearning and find some ways to support students to do the same.

  • Adapting Your Adoption: Making Packaged Curriculum Relevant to Your Students | 3:00pm-4:30pm
Adopted curriculum packages are written to fit all students, but not necessarily written to fit your students. In this workshop, you'll learn how to apply some tools and strategies for successfully adapting packaged curricula for your teaching and learning context.
