Alexandra Cousteau is the co-founder of Oceans 2050, National Geographic Emerging Explorer, filmmaker, and oceans advocate leading a global initiative to restore marine biodiversity within the next generation. Her work to protect our oceans honors her grandfather’s legacy and aligns with the Academy’s new mission and our Hope for Reefs initiative.
Dr. Luiz Rocha is the Academy’s Curator and Follett Chair of Ichthyology. In 2021, he was one of five winners of the prestigious Rolex Awards for Enterprise, awarded to individuals whose work is expanding our knowledge of the world, protecting the environment, and improving human well-being. The award is in recognition of—and will help support—Rocha’s efforts to explore and conserve mesophotic coral reefs, relatively unknown deep-ocean ecosystems, through the Hope for Reefs initiative.
Dr. Scott D. Sampson is the Academy’s Executive Director and William R. and Gretchen B. Kimball Chair. As a renowned paleontologist, author, and advocate of nature-based, experiential education, he leads the institution’s world-class museum as well as programs spanning biodiversity science, environmental learning, and collaborative engagement.
Donor advisors may recommend a charitable donation to Big Bang (e.g. sponsor a table) through a donor advised fund. Your gift is a tax-deductible contribution except for $325 for each Big Bang gala seat. Personal funds must be used for the full value purchase of publicly-available tables and tickets.
If you have any questions, please contact your fund advisor for information regarding donor advised fund grant guidelines for event sponsorship. In the unlikely event that the event does not occur, your generous support will be considered an unrestricted contribution to the California Academy of Sciences. Thank you for your support.
Thank you so much for your generosity!
